Purpose:
The purpose of the film Insidious is to entertain the audience at the ages 15-30 years old. They include a lot of mature language and elder scenery, such as jump scares and provocative scenes which would only be appropriate for this age rage.
Meaning:
[The ghost boy dancing to music]
The meaning of this scene is to keep the audience on the edge of their seat. In this scene they are moving into a new house to escape from the previous paranormal events which were occurring in the other house. For the ghostly events to happen just as they move into a new environment conveys to the audience that there's more to come and its impossible to get away from. The song playing is an old song (Tiptoe through the tulips) - this creates a scary atmosphere and every time the audience who has seen the movie hears it will be reminded of this scary scene.
Style:
The style of this film as a typical horror with paranormal events happening to a normal family in a haunted house.
Genre:
The genre of Insidious is a horror. The iconography of a horror which insidious includes is a haunted house, weapons (guns), symbols of death, binary opposites, blood and a disfigured face.
Content:
The movie is rated as a 15, this is due to the scenes such as jump scares, unusual scary faces which may frighten or potentially scar anyone younger than this age. The film contains minor swearing which would be unsuitable for children under this age rate.
