He wanted to come up with the idea that a story could be relatable to the audience, like not fitting in at work or finding it difficult to adapt to different changes. He came up with a story line and took it to the Executive Producer Hilary Salmon, they adjusted the story line together before they sent it off to the writers. When it was written they introduced director Sasha Yevtushenk, who helped them decide the actors for each role. They also had to get permissions from the BBC before airing

Stages of Production:

There are four stages of production for Radio:

Pre-Production
Production
Post-Production
Distribution

Pre-Production is creating the idea of what you want to make. You decide what story topics, characters, sounds you would like to include. The group then develop a pitch to present to an editorial meeting accompanied by peers and producers. The pitch helps expand on more ideas.

Production is interviewing the characters and analysts. This is where they record an ambiance sound so they can include it in the radio.

Post-Production this is where the actors/actresses record the dialogue, scenes and music. They go through all the clips they have and choose the best ones. They put in order the narrative, fill in the missing pieces so the story fits together well with introducing each character. When the script is written they record the narration which is called 'tracking'.

Distribution is where the radio airs on various outlets also online too. The 'key dimension' of the distribution is the audiences views and response to the air of the show.

3) IDEAS FOR RADIO DRAMA

Sci-fi story idea

My idea is a group of teenagers who have a theory that there is another life on another planet. They are regular teens so they don't have much knowledge about getting to this planet. So they try get in touch with NASA, but it is unsuccessful so they have to resort to their own option. They do research about getting to space. They speak to the science technician at school and he agrees to help by creating a form of transport into space. They spend weeks working on a project in order to get them there however their first try fails as it doesn't have enough energy to last long enough. They work on it more so it becomes doable. They then finally get their transport which is a large pod to work.

It takes them 5 weeks to reach an unknown destination in space. The 5 teens land on the planet and discover a dried out world like a desert.

P3) DRAFT OF GROUP IDEA

TREATMENT - THE SECRET DRAFT 1

PITCH FEEDBACK

  • Elaborate on why the humans are against the robots.
  • Add another character
  • Where the story could go
  • Explain in detail what the armed men look like
  • We decided to go for the 'Secret' because the storyline was easier to create.

RADIO DRAMA ADVERT

P4 PITCHING FEEDBACK (GROUPS)
My pitch:
The people in my group thought my idea was original and interesting. However they got a bit confused with the characters and why each character was there but after I explained they understood and liked the idea.

PITCH VIDEO

My feedback:
My feedback was to go straight to the point about the story and not to drag on as it needs to be short and simple. I also got told to be more confident when explaining so people can understand the story easier.

PITCH FEEDBACK TREATMENT (IN CLASS)
  • Elaborate on why the humans are against the robots.
  • Add another character
  • Where the story could go
  • Explain in detail what the armed men look like.

We decided to go for the 'Secret' because the storyline was easier to create. The pitch we presented seemed to be very convincing towards the audience.

GROUP TREATMENT - THE SECRET DRAFT 2

Contingency Plan:
If when recording one actor isn't there, as there is many of us in a group we will resort to another person in the group to take over, preferably someone who doesn't speak as much. If we are unable to get the room on the day we want, we will book another day where we can use it. We will book back up equipment just in case we get to the room and there are problems with the equipment that we already have.

DRAFT 2

The Secret Script

THE SECRET SCRIPT FORMAT

SCRIPT CHANGES:
We made some changes through the script as a part of it didn't make sense as to why a character was there. The new character is called 'Lexie' and she adds an interesting twist to the story.
